FICTIONAL NAMES – TV – Film - Radio
In fictional drama the scriptwriter invents names for characters. When the script comes into production these names have to be checked against a number of registers. There are only so many first names, and writers working on realistic modern plots will want to use current first names. However it is important that a fictional full name cannot be directly related to any particular living person. There are likely to be many John Smiths but the writer should be careful that no John Smith in public life can be identified by the fictional characterisation. Better to try and choose less obvious combinations, even so they must be checked.
