FADE OUT – TV – Film - Radio - Music Recording
a) Term used in picture editing or VISION MIXING. Refers to the way a picture gradually disappears from the screen usually leaving a moment of black. Often used to denote the passage of time. Also at the end of a CREDITS sequences in TV or movies where the screen fades to black denoting the end of the film.
b) In SOUND EDITING refers to the way one sound is gradually taken out of the sound mix by moving the FADER down. In radio, music is often faded out at the end of a recording or disc. This makes for a smoother transition to speech or to the next piece of music or to denote the end of the programme. See FADER.
