Digital Versatile Disc. Video playback and recording format. A 12cm disc that can playback (or record), very high quality pictures and sound. A DVD can hold up to 8 hours of video, and potentially over 50 hours of excellent quality audio, that’s 18 gigabytes of digital information. Available since 1997 the format is set to enter e new phase with the high quality Sony format Blu-ray . DVD can work as a cross platform format, can handle on screen text and has interactive functionality.
