DIRECTOR – TV – Film – Theatre

a) TELEVISION DIRECTOR in factual television is responsible for the overall look of a TV programme, and for
research, filming contributors, supervising editing, and delivering the final programme.

b) TELEVISION DRAMA DIRECTOR is responsible for interpreting the script and staging the production. For directing the movements and actions of actors, and working with the LIGHTING CAMERAMAN to set up shot size, camera movement and reveal content of a scene. Is responsible for the look, pace, feel, structure and style created in the editing of a drama. Also for auditioning actors and working with PRODUCTION and CREW to achieve special effects, stunts and make everything that appears on the screen happen at the right time.

c) FILM DIRECTOR (right: Quentin Tarantino) is responsible for all the above and absolutely everything to do with the look, shape and content of a feature film. From working on the script to the final edit the film director is in complete control; the only thing he probably has no control over are the film’s finances which are the province of the PRODUCER.
