CUT - TV – Film

a) On TV a cutaway is a shot of a something relevant to what is being said in an INTERVIEW that is put in during editing to enhance the interview or cover a sound edit. E.g. A pilot talking about flying faster than the speed of sound could have pictures of CONCORDE as cutaways.

b) A TV STUDIO VISION MIXER will cut away from one shot to another. Here a cut is distinct from a MIX or WIPE. See CUT, GALLERY
