BLUE SCREEN - POSTPRODUCTION – TV – Film
Technique that allows one image to be overlayed over part of another image. The foreground image, which is usually an actor or presenter, is filmed against a large carefully lit blue screen in a studio, or on location for TV, or against a green screen for Film. The screen can include a blue/green floor and this provides the entire background to the shot. This blue or green background is then replaced (or keyed) in postproduction with another image to create a matched composite picture. With this technique actors can be keyed into futuristic sets or surf on giant virtual waves without leaving the studio. Computer Generated Images (see CGI) can also be used, as in the Star Wars films. Also known in TV as CHROMAKEY.
