BALANCE

a)With reference to News: means to ensure that both sides of the argument, or political spectrum, are reflected in the programme. Both content and actual duration of each side’s contribution within the programme can be taken into account when considering programme balance.  Also programmes offering different points of view may be ‘balanced’ over a period of time.
b)To balance SOUND is to create a pleasing SOUND MIX. When recording music or speech to achieve the right timbre and the right sound levels of different instruments the engineer will balance all the mic. outputs e.g. a vocalist can be heard above the accompanying instruments in a way that resembles a live concert.
