BACKING TRACK
Music that provides the instrumental background to the voice of a singer. Typically a pre-recorded music track, that may include ‘backing vocals’, that a singer can hear in HEADPHONEs (in an audio studio), loudspeaker (see FOLDBACK) or earpiece if on stage or appearing in a TV show. The singer has to sing into his or her mic in tune with the backing track and make sure he or she comes in at the right point, especially after the instrumental middle eight, as well as harmonise with the music.
