Approaches to teaching the EDUQAS content
- Keep regular checks on the eduqas site for any changes to content or assessment subsequent to publication of these edusites units
- At A Level the requirement is for the teaching of a series of media products that students are required to study in detail.
Like the Edusite Core Units that deal with teaching the Media Framework, the work here involves exploring:
- The role and manipulation of media language
- The representations in these products
- Issues of audience
- Institutional issues such as genre, branding, regulation
- How the media creates or represents attitudes, behaviours and beliefs
- The impact of the social context of each era on the products construction/reception
The work and ideas in this unit, like those of subsequent Set Product units, are designed to build on the learning acquired in each term’s Edusites Core Framework Unit. Each of the Set units tackles groupings of the prescribed products that seem to best fit into the work of that term. This EDUQAS Set Product Unit focuses on Media Studies Component 1 Section B. The Core Framework Unit assumed to be studied alongside this unit focuses on developing the toolkit for tackling products and meaning. Later in the course we revisit these products to add levels of depth and breadth to student understanding as knowledge and learning of the Media Framework evolves.
The assumption here is that the centre is able to meet the requirement for student access to the necessary equipment (computers/software) to research the set products.
