Introduction

Welcome to this vocational course, designed for applied, creative learners who like to learn by doing.

Although this particular unit is exam assessed, even in those 2 hours you are asked to be creative by responding to a set brief that you have 20 hours to prepare for (your school will be sent the brief in December).

The good news is that you can also take your research notes into the exam with you!

Pupils and teachers can find out more information about this course at the WJEC CBAC website.

The best way to explain this unit is to show you an Edusites Media sample brief and a sample exam below – then we will explain how you fully prepare for it by showing you an exemplar A grade response:

Sample Assignment Brief

The local authority is planning to organise a local film festival that highlights work by local filmmakers but also celebrates the work of existing producers and directors – to ensure the festival has a unique selling point (USP) a theme of cultural diversity has been suggested meaning that needs to be a range of work exhibited reflecting the wider community.

Your assignment is to carry out individual research on the requirements of the brief. You will have 20 hours in which to complete your research. You should use professional practice, audience requirements and other relevant information in your chosen sector. You will answer questions based on the brief in a 2-hour examination.

The supervising teacher must formally review your research notes during the research period and authenticate your work on the coversheet. You should also sign the candidate declaration on the coversheet to confirm that the research you have carried out is your own unaided work.

Sample Brief/Examination

Answer all the questions (out of 50).

1. Give an explanation of the relevant professional practice you have researched in response to the brief.

You may wish to include details of relevant practitioners, styles, genres,...
