To Media Students

This booklet is to support you in your preparation for the GCSE Media Studies Examination Papers 1 and 2 and the Non-Examination Assessment. This workbook comprises the theory and ideas from the related series of lessons led by your teacher, and is designed to help you to start thinking a little more clearly about the content and requirements involved in studying this subject. By having the notes prepared for you, the anticipation is that you will be able to look at these in your own time and, as the course progresses, be able to relate backwards and forwards to these to develop your understanding. It is not necessary for you to immediately ‘get’ what all of the different theories and ideas are – few students do. But, by revisiting these notes again and again whenever you are set a task in the lesson or for home learning you will slowly build a more certain understanding of how these ideas can be applied to the many different media products that you will be analysing and constructing.

These notes will form a useful revision guide for this work on OCR SSP Examination and will link to the other Edusites Units 1-5 to provide a comprehensive revision resource for Papers 1 and 2 of the OCR exam board specification. In addition, they will be a useful guide for the development of your own NEA portfolio of practical work.

All of this material has been used in a large examination centre for many years and proven highly successful in preparing students of all abilities for their examinations in Media Studies for a variety of different examination boards.

You will use this material for reference and to help you…
