New Spec OCR Unit 1 of 6 GCSE Media Studies J200

Barry Rainsford | Monday May 29, 2017

Categories: GCSE, OCR GCSE

These resources are flexible for the first term when you don’t have to choose which exam board you are pursuing.

Each term we provide a Core Unit, based on the Department for Education Media Studies GCSE subject content. (February 2016)

The four areas of this theoretical framework, are:

  • media language: how the media through their forms, codes and conventions communicate meanings
  • representation: how the media portray events, issues, individuals and social groups
  • media industries: how the media industries’ processes of production, distribution and circulation affect media forms and platforms
  • audiences: how media forms target, reach and address audiences, how audiences interpret and respond to them, and how members of audiences become producers themselves

Below are links to all of the elements you will need for the first term. Please read the note on copyright carefully.

Copyright

  • Because we are a non profit making, self financed, independent publishing company founded and run by teachers for teachers we take Copyright very seriously
  • Edusites resources or login details cannot be shared with anyone not employed at the subscribing school or college
  • When we are made aware that there is a breach of our copyright agreement we pursue the individual/s named in our records and/or institution
  • Our current subscribers have paid for these resources to be produced and we would like to produce as many as possible for our future subscribers
  • Sharing Edusites resources is not a generous act it is theft and distribution of stolen goods
  • Our resources have been commissioned and the professional teachers have been paid for the work they have produced

Instructions

  • For the Autumn term you have three elements to this course; OCR Core Unit 1 Media Language, OCR CSP Unit 1 and the OCR NEA Unit 1. All three of these Units then have three different elements, A teacher’s guide named here as the Teacher SOL, Student Guide and Online Slides.
  • The Student section is to be cut and pasted from the online page into a booklet and printed for the students to work from.
  • Here is an example of one I made earlier
  • Images for the workbook will also need to be available for your students.
  • The SOL Teacher is a suggested lesson by lesson scheme, this can be cut and pasted into your institution format
  • Online slides drive the core learning of these units and are designed to be projected for the whole class to see.

Appendix

These materials are for use with the Edusites OCR GCSE Media Studies: Core Unit 1. These support the work in your lessons and the Home Learning. Use these in conjunction with the Student Notepack for developing your learning and understanding of the requirements of the examinations.

The images and resources are presented in this format to allow you to more easily annotate them and to support you in developing your ideas about the theoretical models we cover in this course and your own understanding of how the media industry works.

The philosophy we have at Edusites is that knowledge only becomes understanding through practical application by doing the analysis and making your own products such as magazine covers, storyboards and promotional adverts.
