Introduction

Digital publishing in its simplest form means you can read anything, pretty much anywhere. This unit teaches you the skills of creating work for digital publishing and ensures at the end of it you develop your own digital media product!

The learning outcomes (below) will be simplified into assignments that you will undertake as part of a live brief that represents typically what you would be expected to take on if you were working in this media sector:

This BTEC portfolio assessed unit asks you to do three things:

  1. Know about digital publishing opportunities
  2. Understand use of digital publishing technology and techniques
  3. Produce material for digital production

The Brief

You have been to develop pages for an independent British, fashion e magazine to be read on a number of platforms focusing on youth culture - the name of the publication is Skin Deep. The target audience is 14-19 year olds but they have initially asked you to investigate the potential for publishing this material using digital technology and digital platforms.

Your first task/assignment (see below) will be to identify potential platforms from what is already out there - how they are used, where they are available and what will be the advantage using e media over traditional publishing, reporting directly back to the client. The client also doesn’t know much about digital software and techniques used so this will need to be explained clearly to them before they agree to employ you.

Your second task/assignment (see below) will be to develop some sample pages while your final task/assignment (if you have convinced them) will be to produce the front cover, double page spread and contents pages.
