Notes to candidates

  • The following brief has been issued to help you prepare for the examination for Unit 1 Investigating the Media.
  • You are advised to read it carefully and use it to guide your preparation.
  • The preliminary material takes the form of a brief. In the examination you will be expected to respond in role to this brief.
  • In the examination you will be asked to complete four tasks.

Guidance for the examination

  • You will need to use the knowledge and understanding you have gained about Television Game Shows.
  • You should take into the examination coloured pencils, fine liners and a ruler and use these where appropriate.
  • You should make sketches and diagrams to help develop your answers where appropriate.
  • You are not allowed to take this copy of the brief or any notes with you into the examination.
  • A clean copy of this brief will be included with the examination paper.

Talking TV - An Independent, British TV Production Company

We are a British Television Production Company that specialises in making Reality TV Programmes. Moving forward into 2017 we are trying to sell a new idea for a different genre to television networks – Television Game Shows. We are unsure at the moment about content and how to market the show but also about what audience we should be targeting. Less and less people watch television these days so we want to somehow appeal to viewers with a USP! This is where you come in.

We are launching an online competition to develop ideas for a new Television Game Show with the winning pitch being awarded a writing contract with Talking TV to fully develop the idea with our team. You will need to think about:

  • The name of the show and content
  • Presenter/s and contestants/panellists
  • A theme or topic
  • ...
