To go with AQA GCSE Media Studies Assignment 3 Practical Production Evaluation Guide

For this brief students will be producing four pages of a new local or new national newspaper. If working as part of a group, no more than two students are permitted to produce four pages each.

Key Concepts = Media Language, Institution, Audience and Representation.

Structure

  • Individual Planning & Research: LOW, LIMITED SUPERVISION (15 Marks)
  • Construction: MEDIUM, INFORMAL SUPERVISON (20 Marks)
  • Individual Evaluation: MEDIUM, INFORMAL SUPERVISION (10 Marks)

Recommended Timescales: 10 weeks, 25-30 hours

  • Planning and Research – 3 Weeks
  • Construction – 5 Weeks
  • Evaluation – 2 Weeks

Controlled Assessment Supervision

  • High/Formal – Evidenced by AQA Task Setting
  • Medium/Informal – Questions/Tasks are outlined, supervision is confined to ensuring that the contributions of individual candidates are recorded correctly, and ensuring plagiarism does not take place. Sources must be clearly recorded and each candidate’s preparation for the final production of the work must be his or her own. TEACHERS MAY PROVIDE GUIDANCE AND FEEDBACK E.G. APPROACHES TO TASKS, PROGRESS TO DATE AND AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT THE DETAILED CORRECTION AND ANNOTATION OF WORK FOR FEEDBACK PURPOSES IS PROHIBITED.
  • Low/Limited – Planning and Research may be undertaken with limited supervision and candidates need not be under the direct supervision of staff. The Planning and Research folder must be handed in before the production can start, given out during each production session and then taken in again after each session. Students should not have access to their Planning and Research Portfolio outside of lesson time once the production is underway.
