Section B Cross Media Study Film Fiction

This is a resource for students and teachers who have chosen Film Fiction as their Cross Media Study topic. For advice on the structure and format of Section B Cross Media Study please access our guide at Teaching AQA AS Media Studies MEST1 Guide. The exemplar response AQA AS Media Studies MEST1 Section B Cross Media Study Synergy Exemplar relates specifically to the Film Fiction Cross Media Study.

We will be analysing and researching Film Fiction across the following 3 media platforms:

  • Cinema
  • Newspapers and Magazines
  • The Internet and E Media

We hope to provide enough help, research sources and information to prepare you for possible Section B questions on areas such as:

  • Mainstream Commercial Pressures (2014 exam)
  • Audiences and Control (2014 exam)
  • Use of Technology (2013 exam)
  • Narrative and the Role of Narrative (2015 exam)
  • Synergy and Intertextuality (2012 exam)

A full list of possible question areas is available in the above resource. Questions in Section B are more industry based with the exception of Narrative and require you to have an up to date understanding and knowledge of the film industry across 3 platforms covering:

  • Film Production
  • Film Distribution including cross platform advertising and marketing
  • Film Consumption including the different ways audience watch film on a range of different platforms and audience targeting
  • Film Ownership and Institution
  • Film and Digital Technology

A good way to start your research is by looking at the way mainstream and independent films are represented on your three platforms.
