WJEC GCSE 2010 Revision Scheme

A Suggested Scheme of Work

This scheme of work is not in any way prescriptive, it is simply offered as a possible way in. It should be adapted and moulded to fit particular teachers, students and resources.

Week 1 Class Work

Revision of Section A thinking about the Mediainvestigating. Text analysis including genre, narrative, and mis-en-scène from moving image sports TV and print and online advertisements, Representations and Audiences.

Offer ways to respond to short questions e.g.

In an unseen extract from a magazine programme about rugby this explanation of why shots were used would be likely to get into the top bracket of the mark scheme:

Example response: ‘The long shot of the scrum establishes the action and context of the game. The close-up of a player’s foot makes audiences aware that some kind of dramatic event is going to occur, and then the close-up of a player’s elated face as he puts the ball down over the line is designed to make audiences feel the emotion of the game.’

Week 2 Class Work

Revision of marketing to include responses that refer to marketing based on these type of elements:

  • Poster campaigns, include teaser campaigns and billboard/bus shelter advertising
  • Television advertising
  • Film trailers in the cinema
  • Promotion of stars on television (e.g. film review programmes, talk shows) and in...
