The Making of Harry Potter trip can be described as one of the most magical and exciting school trips I have ever undertaken with my AS Media Studies group in June 2013. Students arrived at the studios where Harry Potter was produced just after 11:00, and the process was slick and organised. Tickets were reserved and we were even moved forward in the queue to go in. (In any teacher’s book this is fantastic service.)The two studios were aptly named J and K, and the main entrance was at J where we were met by massive posters, and images of the production of the film. We were soon to be whisked away on our journey through the massive buildings; however, it all first started with an impressive cinematic experience before the entire audience was allowed into the great hall.

It was a jaw dropping experience for my Media students, as they came face to face with the wonders of set building, editing, the effective use of green screening, make –up, mise-en-scene, and set design.

They could clearly see how the film came to life on the various sets used, and how important it is to edit well.

The tour was well organised, and carefully planned.

The whole experience was highly informative and the learning value of the day was excellent.

This is a must see for all Media students if you can work the visit into their learning programmes.
