The Brief

For this unit you are a freelance journalist researching articles on popular media products. You are going to investigate an action film genre “The Italian Job” (two versions of the film - 1969 and 2003) and one lifestyle magazine, “Heat”.  You will either produce a feature article including text and images or you will give a visual presentation to your editor on each of the above products.

You will need to analyse two products – one factual and one fictional:

1. Respond to a brief to explain your investigations into these two products.
2. Analyse the structure of these two products.
3. Explore and describe their meanings.
4. Look at representation of places and people and its effects on an audience.
5. Investigate distribution (who sells magazines and who shows this type of film) as well as ownership patterns.
6. Look at the legal and ethical issues and what types of regulation are in place for these two products.

You will produce one portfolio that covers both of these products. Your portfolio will need to be numbered chronologically on every page so that evidence can be found clearly. You should make it look visually appealing so you may want to use PowerPoint or other interesting ways to...
