An Overview
This course is 100% vocationally orientated and requires portfolio evidence with no exams to sit what so ever. This is the case for both Level 2 and for Level 3.
OCR requires students to imagine they are in role for the tasks they create and that they should learn about real life working industries and practices in the world of media.
Students will need to be set realistic deadlines in order to complete the necessary units for their type of award.
The Level 3 course involves various paths such as non-specialist ones (Units 5-12) and then some specialist paths like writing and publishing (Units 13 – 17) and TV/film (Units 18-24); Audio specialism (Units 25-29) and a Games pathway (Units 30-34).
Everyone doing this course has to complete the first four units regardless of the path they take as these are the mandatory units.
Students doing the Certificate (06538) will need to do six units including the four mandatory units (Units 1-4) as well as two optional units. This is the equivalent of one A’ Level in UCAS points.
Students doing the Diploma (06539) will need to do twelve units including the four mandatory units (Units 1-4) as well as eight optional units. This is the equivalent of two A’ Levels in UCAS points.
