OCR GCSE Media Studies Units B322 Moving Image and B323 Print

For examination in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013

This is a textual analysis exam that will test knowledge of the key concepts in Section A:

  • Genre
  • Media Language
  • Representation

As an introduction to this unit it is worth giving a general introduction to these genres:

  • Action Adventure Films
  • TV Comedy

Students can study either:

B322 Moving Image in Action Adventure Films

or

B323 Print with Lifestyle Magazines

The exam is 1 hour 45 minutes. Candidates are required to answer three compulsory questions in section A. The unit is marked out of 80, Section A (50 marks) and Section B (30 marks). Section B is common to both print and moving image and is one compulsory question.

B322 – Section A Moving Image

The unseen moving image extract from Action Adventure Films will be three–five minutes long.

B323 – Section A Print

The unseen print extract Lifestyle Magazines will be at least three and at most five pages. See this site (GCSE Media Studies Year 1 Unit B323 Media Studies Assignment 1) for a Lifestyle Magazines task.

Example: In a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1,500 words, compare and contrast how two women’s weekly lifestyle magazines represent celebrities. See Understanding Teenage & Lifestyles Magazines on this site.

Section B

This section is common to both Unit B322 and Unit B323, and the compulsory question will be...
