A Suggested Scheme of Work

It is suggested that you SELECT ONE BRIEF FOR THE WHOLE CLASS.

You’ll find it’s a nightmare if you have several specs running at the same time. Select your brief according to the technology you have available.

OCR SPEC: Print Brief

Preliminary Exercise

Using DTP and an image manipulation programme, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead.

Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.

Main Task

The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).

All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of four images per candidate.

TOP TIPS

  • Student groups to be either 2 or no more than 3 – each student to produce own edition of magazine
  • Students start communicating immediately with each other by setting up a blog in their group – invaluable later on
  • Minimum 4 best quality images – no found images – more than 4 is better.
  • FIRST get students used to working with the digital camera technology, and image manipulation software...
