Continuing Professional Development - Whole School and Department

So, how do you move from ‘Good To Outstanding’? What is a ‘Dare Devil’ in the class room? In schools, raising the standards of teaching and learning is important to the students, parents and OFSTED, but it can also be a necessary factor in bringing a bit of excitement into the staff room. Based on her experience as an award winning, AST and Senior Leader, Nicole will share the tips of what ‘Outstanding’ looks like, how you can be it, and how you can encourage your staff to embrace taking more risks in the classroom.

Aim

  • To discuss and identify ‘What is the difference between Good and Outstanding?’ as a whole school
  • Facilitating whole school discussion about standards of teaching and learning
  • Getting staff to identify what level they are at, and what they need to do to improve?
  • To help inspire schools to share best practice, take risks and make teaching more exciting for all
  • Identify working groups/ new initiatives to improve standards of teaching and create a dialogue about teaching and learning
  • Use of social media and school resources to support new ventures

Outline

  • Whole school introduction to ‘What is the difference between Good and Outstanding?’
  • Breakaway groups to identify how to be ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ teachers
  • Subject groups to look at SOW, year groups and write in ‘Outstanding’ teaching and learning ideas into their future work
  • Workshop on how to be a ‘Dare Devil’ in the classroom
  • Interactive session: Using new technologies to support Outstanding teaching and learning in your school

Pass Your Theory: Media Theory at Speed

Aim

This workshop is aimed at getting you up to speed with Media Theory. From an introduction to the key concept ideology to bespoke generic theories, this course will set you on the right road. If you are new to the subject, or just need a refresh - this is the course for you!

Outline

Session 1: Introduction to Theory and the Key Concepts | We will identify and apply the main ideas you will need with your students for audience, representation, narrative, institutions and genre.

This will be at a basic level, go at the speed of the group, but will work towards more sophisticated theory, dependent on your learners’ levels and abilities.

The session will end in a ‘pub quiz’ to see if you have ‘Passed Your Theory’!

Session 2: Lesson Planning* using these concepts, there is time to create lesson plans and resources for your classes.

Guided by an experienced AST, you will be able to create ‘outstanding’ lesson plans, give expert advice and ensure you can secure these theories with your students.

Additional Session 3**: Personalised Theory | Nicole will bring personalised theory to help you. Negotiated before the session, she will be able to help fill in the gaps. So, if you are teaching A Level Women and Film, she will help you understand, research further and prepare you for lessons.

As always, Nicole can be found on the blog for additional support and her other workshops are on her consultancy page. Please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more details.

Note

  • Session 1 and 2 is a half day workshop.
  • Session 1,2 and 3 is a full day.
  • Please bring a laptop and appropriate planning materials to the workshop.

* Please send Nicole SOW or an idea of the topic if you wanted additional support.
** Nicole will need to know the topics two weeks in advance of your scheduled workshop.
