MED6 Support Comparative Critical Analysis

Time allowed: 1 hr writing. 30 mins reading/taking notes only

You have 30 mins to read the texts, or view the moving image clips, and make notes. Then you have one hour to write your response. It is really essential to make good use of the 30 minute note making time.

This paper does not directly ask candidates to compare the two texts which can be moving image or print texts. It asks candidate to use the texts as a starting point for a discussion around the issues, ideas, contexts and Key Concepts suggested by the texts.

AQA says: The paper is a synoptic assessment unit. It is intended to test your ability to draw together and make connections between the different elements of the A Level Media Studies course.

I think the exam is more likely to be a moving image text than a print text, which is a good thing as there is more to say, but no one can be sure until the day.

You can check on the exam day to see if the school or college is making an exam room ready to show video. If it is then you are likely to see a moving image text.

Print Texts

There might be two posters advertising two related films, DVD covers for two films or a mixture of both. There could be two pages from different newspapers or magazines. The task is to compare the print images and use them as a spring board for discussion. It is most important that candidates...
