INDEPENDENT STUDY

There is no week by week overview of this unit as this is not taught in a six-week block. it works alongside MED 4 units of work. There will be regular deadlines set and regular tutorials to assess students’ work.

RESOURCES: students provided with a folder that contains information to help them plan their Independent Study. The folder has Key Concepts highlighted, exemplar material from students that gained a strong grade with examiners’ comments as well as details on how to plan and write the Independent Study. It also has a list of web sites that students con visit covering all likely areas for their Study.

ICT OPPORTUNITIES: the Study must be work processed and be 3000 words long. It must have footnotes and a bibliography. There may be an appendix that has use of ICT if scanned images are desired and a front title page that as relevant images either scanned or created using ICT skills and dedicated software.

AIMS: Why do this scheme? This unit of work allows for critical autonomy a students should be interested in a topic before they choose to write 3000 words on it and it is their Independent Study which means that tutorials will be offered, rather than class teaching, and only limited guidance as identified as allowed by the specification.

OBJECTIVES: What will pupils have learnt and be able to do by the end?...
