Adapt and use according to your particular circumstances.
This is the GCSE that was first examined in 2010. For the single GCSE there are two units which can be taught over two years.
Two extra units exploring media industries in more depth can be bolted on to obtain the GCSE Media Studies Double Award, either alongside the first two units or over a further year.
Unit 1
Assessed by an exam and worth 40% of the GCSE. Written Paper – 1 hour 30 mins – 60 marks.
The compulsory topic to be investigated for Unit 1 summer 2011 will be Action Adventure Films.

Unit 2
Coursework with a choice of three assignments for production and pre-production and worth 60%.
How you organise the time to teach this GCSE depends on your particular situation. Some people prefer to start with practical work leading to the course work assignments, and then teach the more theoretical aspects leading up to the exam.
If you have students new to media studies it is usually helpful to start with basic exercises introducing the Key Concepts, with some practical activities, starting with print material, websites and still images and then introducing moving image texts.
